Kg Chuweh, Temenggor, Hulu Perak 30 april - 2May 2011

Back to nature...that is our theme for this trip. Having exploring many back to nature, this one is a little bit different, we staying with Orang asli Jahai, or Or perhaps on a more familiar note - the Negritos

what I understand, the Temenggor’s Hydro Electric Dam project began in 1975 and completed in 1977. since then Orang Jahai roamed and lived by the Lake , not by nature by force, as their forefather used to lived in the jungle without the lake

the lake takes 18,000hectare pool of water measuring 80km long, 5km wide with a depth of 124metres (at its deepest).

The basis of the Orang asli’s survival is to maintain the mutual respect they have for their environment as have their fathers and the fathers before them. They ask for little and are contented with living at the fringes of their jungle. However, Goverment effort to help them with water supply from the lake, hampered by some greedy contractors, who saw opportunity to make money from them through the Goverment. We saw some water pump equipment and engine , just like white elephant, it is useless.

Hope to be back again....
